A Bekenal 2 is slightly smaller than a Wilton 2. My friend uses all Wilton, but thats because she inherited her moms stuff. I guess they dont have to have a standardized diameter.

Most decorators using the Bekenal tips are using only a small amount of royal icing in a parchemnt bag, so a coupler isnt really necessary. is perfect for making tiny flowers and fine details. I will take your advice on the Ateco tips 1 and 2 and purchase them too:)

By As you can see the Ateco is bigger than the Wilton, but a bit smaller than the PME. The new ones I find are too big. As you can see, there is a huge gap between Wilton sizes while the Atecos change more gradually. I dont have a coupler for the large tips, although I believe my Wilton kit came with a couple larger tips, it didnt come with a large coupler.

The good thing about this is you can get away with buying the much cheaper Ateco #2s in place of the PMEs because the Ateco is about the equivalent of a Wilton #2.5, if there were such a thing. Youre also right that they arent interchangeable.

love your post Callye, all the differences drive me crazy. I was actually just noticing the same thing the other day while decorating.although I dont own any Ateco tips. I was also going to paint on the cake and the tutorial I watched suggested a base (smooth) layer with a crusted icing.

Now for an even more shocking comparison. Yes, I use them with both couplers with no problem. You can see a wider tall swirl using Ateco 849 on these yellow cupcakes and these peanut butter cupcakes.)
