We pulled the plugs and there is no spark. One of the error codes that showed up was 636 - CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) might be faulty. So on this ATV the batteries keep dying to the point it won't start I'm on my 2nd battery this week it took me until this one to figure out that my ATV isn't charging it's on 12.75 volts when sitting in the ATV and it doesn't go up when being revved what are the chances it could be the rectifier/regulator vs the stator or CDI. Timing is on speck. That would be throttle safety switch. A friend came over one day and we got to talking about it and he was like can I take a look, sure why not. I ended up purchasing a Check Tech and connected it to the machine and looked up error codes from history.

Did you check the gap on the pick up coil ? RPMs at idle are around 1250-1300 but if I rev it and let the RPMs drop back down it will either stop around 1250-1300 or it will just shut off. For giggles I took it out and plugged it into another machine and read the voltage and it was showing .45v. I looked at my harness from the stator and there is 2) 3 prong plugs and I have a rectangle plug with 4 wires (some are multiple wires going to each spade). if it is stuck for any reason, it acts as a kill switch. While is backfiring etc separate the contacts on the throttle control and see if it clears. According to the manual it says that it should be about .46v +- .003 and mine is running at .38. New plugs, old ones looked ok. Made no difference. Or timing ?

I remember a similar topic on this and it turned out to be a pick up coil that was the problem. The back fire and puff of smoke out of the carb all though sounds like a timing thing but I guess it cant hurt to have a look at the top end to make sure its all proper and valves are opening and closing the right way.
